Useless History Trivia XLVI

Question: How many former presidents have died on the Fourth of July?

Answer will be posted Thursday.

The Dark Knight

On Sunday, Emily and I went to see The Dark Knight. Some thoughts:

- I didn’t think they could make a better superhero movie than Batman Begins. I was wrong.

- If I see a better movie this year, I’ll be shocked.

- If the Oscars want to be taken seriously again, they better damn well give Heath Ledger a posthumous award. His Joker is one of the all-time great bad guys in movie history.

- The reviews by James Berardinelli and Roger Ebert describe the movie very well.

- I haven’t felt this way about a great movie in a long time. The more I reflect on it, the more I appreciate all the nuances in the plot and the script. The acting is top-notch, not only by Ledger but also by Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent and Gary Oldman as Lt. Gordon. The action scenes are tense and exciting. With all the crap that Hollywood puts out every single weekend, it’s nice to see that occasionally they do something right.
